Product Update: New features for Athlete Representatives in Opendorse

Professional athletes have been engaging with agents to build and monetize their brands since the 1960’s, but recent changes to NIL rules now allow college athletes in the US to monetize their name, image and likeness too. These changes have suddenly and rapidly expanded the need for representatives to help student-athletes navigate this new era.

We recently released several enhancements in Opendorse to help representatives and athletes build and monetize brands while delivering increased transparency to institutions. We didn’t want to limit these workflows to only one type of athlete representative, so the following user roles can all make use of Opendorse’s features, completely free of charge.

What types of Athlete Representatives can use Opendorse?

Agents & Marketing Representatives

These are specialists in brand-building and deal-making. They help increase an athlete’s visibility and awareness in the market, leading to increased revenue opportunities.

Financial Advisors & Tax Professionals

Tax penalties and obligations are real and often unfamiliar territory for athletes.  These professionals help athletes navigate and understand tax liabilities in addition to helping them properly save and budget for the future.

Lawyers & Attorneys

While many agents are also lawyers that specialize in contracts and negotiation, some athletes may prefer to work directly with a lawyer for legal guidance and advice.

Parents & Guardians

A trusted family member such as a parent or guardian may be the preferred option over engaging with a professional service provider. Opendorse values this type of representation and provides the same customer experience and tools to this role.

What can an Athlete Representative accomplish in Opendorse?

Student-athletes who work with representatives can easily add those providers into Opendorse when submitting a disclosure.

The rep will receive a notification to create an Opendorse account and add their professional credentials (if they have any) to their profile. Representatives will also automatically be linked to a student-athlete’s institution and that institution will be able to confirm and verify any linked credentials.

Once verified, the rep will gain visibility into all disclosure activities that their student-athletes are taking and will also be able to submit proof or dispute activities on behalf of the athlete.

Student-athletes can save time by not being the only user making disclosures, while still maintaining safety and compliance on all transactions.
